Savaya's location is a little tricky to find! It's located within the La Encantada Homes complex, which is north of 1st Avenue and southwest of Rams Field Pass. If you're driving northeast on Oracle, make a u-turn when you're even with Rams Field Pass. Turn into the furthest right turn lane so you're driving southwest in this lane along Oracle. Snapshot Memoir Writing

New Class!

This new workshop blends art history, science (sort of!) and storytelling. We hold up a magnifying glass to our old-time photographs, and tease out their long-held mysteries. The result: potent little essays we can fold up and fit in our pockets. Join us! To read all about it, click here.

Snapshot Memoir Writing

Thursday, November 2nd, 1:30-4:30pm

Northwest YMCA Pima Arts Center
Room 303

When we study old pictures up close, and consider every detail, memories begin to creep back. In this class we learn about the shortest form of memoir writing, ‘flash creative nonfiction'. Exercises help us dive from these photographs into the ocean of stories as yet undiscovered. Includes a short lecture, exercises, tips on writing in a compact way, sharing and discussion. For adult writers.

$24. Limit 12.

This class is offered through the Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department. Classes are held at the Northwest YMCA Pima Arts Center, Room 303. Address: 7770 N. Shannon Road, Tucson, AZ 85741. For a map to this location, click here. Questions? Contact me.

This special outdoor gathering-- held in a riparian garden-- blends journaling, generative writing, meditative exercises and quiet time with circles of meaningful discussion.

At the heart of the day is connection. We write and observe, breathe deeply, share our writing aloud, have a little rest, and go home feeling like we've indulged in a sweet vacation. Includes a spread of light and lovely refreshments. Held in a private garden in Northwest Tucson.

This retreat is for women writers only.

Limit 6. $120. Registration closed.

Event Details

The day will be about... relaxing outside with our writing and new friends. We'll experiment with exercises in personal, self-reflective and creative writing. There will be periods for reading our writing aloud and also for discussing our thoughts and insights about writing, creativity, nature and whatever else comes up for us when we're in the garden.

Slow time. We'll take a silent walk in the outdoor space. We'll have a quiet hour or so to write, paint, snooze or whatever. On breaks you’re free to wander the area and chill out in whatever way you wish.

Lunch and refreshments. Light snacks, coffee, tea, filtered water and juices will be available throughout the day. You will want to bring a sack lunch to enjoy picnic-style in the garden.

Weather. Because temperatures vary, we may work in the garden for part of the time, and inside the house for the rest of the time. Writers are welcome to write where they feel most comfortable.

Playschool

This is a unique workshop for all adults—writers or otherwise— who need a nudge toward play. Group movement games inspire our curiosity, foster teamwork and allow us to let loose. For one hour we play group improv games; in hour two, we write from prompts, read our words and chat. This is the kind of school you'll want to visit again and again.
